What is the 100 years of HBCC project?
It is a vision to keep Christian Camping alive by valuing the past and being relevant in today's world. We are doing this by gathering the history of the 25 camps to produce a book, telling the story of each camp and God's work.
In 2023, a ‘Camping Hui’ was held to connect Boards, staff, and leaders from the 25 camps that are connected with the Christian Community Churches of New Zealand (CCCNZ).
It was a time of common unity with the hope that through camping ministries, the Gospel would have greater access to more people in NZ.
One outcome is to produce a book that tells the individual story of each camp and what God has done through the Open Brethren heritage camping ministries.
The vision is to keep Christian camping alive by valuing the past and being relevant in today’s world.
From a seed came the need. After the great wars, many New Zealanders feared for their futures and were in desperate need of hope.
As Gospel seeds were planted, hope returned and peace replaced fears. The need for Christian Camps to plant the Gospel seeds developed as more and more young people searched for the meaning of life. The history of these camps reminds us that people will always have needs.
Our work is to keep planting the seeds of eternal life.

Your history, one book
We have spent a year collating the history of each camp to compile into chapters. We've closed submissions as the book is being compiled, edited and published.
